Like many e-Bikes, the Cafe Cruiser runs on an electric motor that draws power from the lithium ion battery pack. Most electric bikes can be propelled forward by manually pedalling, using the throttle in addition to pedalling, or using just the throttle once moving forward.
On a side note, if you are about to buy an electric bike that doesn't allow you to pedal manually, you most likely are about to buy a moped which requires licensing, road tax and insurance. Please step away, take a few steps back, turn around, and walk out that door quickly. Grab any complimentary snacks and drinks on your way out and come over to MOFO Life to find what you need!
Yes, the Cafe Cruiser is compliant with the following EU standards:
At their core, electric bikes operate like a regular bicycle, which can reach similar speeds. And just like regular bikes, there are brakes that allow you to slow down and stop. Please follow all normal safety precautions that would follow with a normal bicycle. Always adhere to the rules of the road.
Yes, you can ride your electric bike in the rain, but we advise against it. Our batteries are enclosed in waterproof casings but just as we advise against riding a non-electric bicycle when its raining. If you do ride in the rain, follow all safety precautions just as you would riding a regular bicycle, a moped, or a motorcycle.
We expect anywhere from a 35-45km range. If you're lighter you will likely achieve the higher part of that range. We've tested our bikes many times to give you an accurate real world range.
The pedal-assist mode works in tandem with the electric motor to give you a little boost. Imagine someone who starts pushing you on a regular bicycle only when you start pedalling.
The throttle only mode works like the throttle on a moped or motorcycle but our throttle will not work from a standing start - you must peddle to begin to move before initiating the throttle. You can hum along or quickly pick up speed using only the electric motor.
